Why should you waste space on worn – out clothing, broken tools, or computer equipment that’s so old it’s incompatible with the rest of your home office? The time has come to sever the bonds. The first rule of organizing your stuff is to sift through it for what your really need. Hold onto what’s useful or truly meaningful. If you still have trouble deciding what’s a keeper, apply the test: Anything your or your family members haven’t put to use in eighteen months should go. Donate serviceable clothing and furniture to a charity, or hold a yard sale. If it’s possible recycle materials.
Categorize once you’ve separated the wheat from the chaff to speak, group the objects your going to store or put on display. The best approach is a simple and systematic one. Sort by common characteristics. Such as size, color, or purpose, all while keeping in mind the kind of storage you need.

If you use a computer, the desk should be able to accommodate it and still give you enough surface area for writing and filing. A bulletin board is a great space saver and allows you to display important information without cluttering your desk surface.

THE bedroom is a sanctuary, the place where you retreat after a long day. This one should be free of distractions. With clothing draped over your bed, dresser, and nightstand, shoes scattered about the floor, and dirty laundry piled in a corner, the bedroom can accumulate its share of clutter. Primary storage areas in the bedroom are the closet and the dresser drawers. The first step is determining the areas of your bedroom that need attention. When all of your clothes are clean and hung up is your closet bursting at the seams? Do you often need to layer blouses or pants on a hanger? Are your shoes piled on the floor of the closet and under your bed, making it hard to find the mate? Is it hard for your to get dressed in the morning or for a special event because you were unable to find the clothes you want to wear? When you purchase a new item of clothing, do you later realize you already own something like it? Do you keep stacks of folded shirts and sweaters on the floor or in laundry baskets or bins? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may not have enough closet space.

From the main pole, you can hang a second shorter pole. For shoe storage you can use clear shoe boxes, or even their original boxes labeled. Alternating the shoes toe-in and toe-out will save space. Arrange by category. Store together items of similar type, size and shape. Stacking plates, keeping canned goods together, and nesting pans saves space and makes them easy to locate. Infrequently used dinnerware such as china and crystal or even appliances (bread machine) can be boxed and kept in a garage, storage closet, or bedroom closet. Adjust shelves. Start with the bottom of the cabinet and then adjust the shelf to accommodate the tallest item. Install the next shelf accordingly. Install hooks from cabinet shelves for hanging mugs and tea cups or a rack for hanging stemmed glassware. Installing vertical cabinet dividers allows you to store cutting boards, serving trays, baking sheets. Each divided section can hold two or four items. Pile plastic food – storage containers by size, large to small. Pots and pans and be removed from cabinets and stored on a ceiling or wall mounted pot rack specifically for this purpose. Sturdy wooden or steel adjustable shelving can hold cookbooks, plates, baskets, large appliances and bulk-food containers.
